What is Rothwell and why is it important?
Rothwell ISO 11948-1 is the universal standard for measuring total absorption capacity. It measures the theoretical absorption capacity of the absorbent material in the entire
urine absorbent pad.
It is the only ISO standard for the quality of absorbent products such as incontinence products.
Theoretical vs. practical absorption
Rothwell is a theoretical absorption rate that represents the absorption rate in a laboratory setting under optimal conditions. It does not represent practical absorption. The
method overestimates the amount of urine a product can hold in actual use. This is because in the Rothwell method, all materials (not just the core) absorb liquid.
As a rule of thumb, if actual absorption is to be tested for incontinence products, it is only 1/3 of the ISO Rothwell value. the core of adult diaper,booster pad ,adult pull ups
diaper, the size of the adult diaper/adult pull ups diaper, the test pressure value of the diaper/pads and the position of the user all have an influence on the practical absorption.
